Revolutionary History Lesson at Hanlon
By Monica Parker-James

The Hanlon Elementary School field was the site of an authentic Revolutionary War Encampment. The Rehoboth Minute Company recreated an encampment complete with an officer’s tent, private’s tent, weapons tent, cooking tent, and craftsmen area to demonstrate candle making and lead ball making. Students observed and interacted
with characters who portrayed the men and women of an original 1774 militia group. The encampment provided students an educational opportunity to participate in an historically accurate depiction of the lifestyle and challenges
faced by men, women and children during the early period of citizens’ struggle for independence.
